Mastodon Updates
There were a couple of smaller patches again this month, v4.7.3 contained mostly behind the scenes fixes, and v4.7.4 which addressed some security and performance issues.
Design Changes and Community Feedback
The Mastodon project shared some more information on the upcoming design changes in v5.0 that is expected to be released in the near future.
Additionally Mastodon has launched a new Community Forum as the official place for users to register feedback, suggestions, issues etc. So that’s the place to go to provide your feedback on the design changes or anything else going forward. Technical bug reports still live on Github for the more admin/programmer side of things.
While I typically update sunny.garden to the latest Mastodon version within a couple of days of release, v5.0 is likely going to be controversial and somewhat divisive from a design perspective. It’s possible that we hold off updating a bit longer this time in order to allow more time for the kinks to be worked out. But we will certainly update eventually, as the Mastodon team will not continue to support older version with security and bug fixes forever.
