Media Storage Outage (Mini)

On May 14th our hosting provider OVH experienced another outage of their object storage system which uses to store media files. Existing posts and media were still available, but new images/video could not be posted or received during that time.

OVH had this outage resolved after about 15 minutes, which I am thankful for, as I had just been about to go to bed…

Mastodon Update

On May 30th, Mastodon released a small update v4.2.9, and applied this update a day later.

This update contained mostly minor bug fixes for server issues, mainly of interest to admins, so check out the release notes if you’re interested.

Another relatively quiet, no news is good news, kind of month.

Hosting Costs

Particularly sharp eyed readers may notice that the size reported for “Backups” this month is considerably higher than before.

I hadn’t been sure what number to report here – there are 3 different backup locations, storing different combinations of things (configuration files, database, media), and getting charged at different rates, which is rather a bit much detail to into here on a monthly basis – and I had previously chosen somewhat arbitrarily to report the size of only one of those buckets.

But to sum up, nothing has actually changed here, the new number is just the total size of all of the buckets which are being billed for, which includes multiple copies of the data being backed up.
